Foxwoods Resort Casino announce $85 million expansion in 2023

September 2, 2022

Foxwoods Resort Casino has announced an $85 million expansion project that will add 50K square feet to the casino and include "luxurious, high-limit slots" when it opens in the summer of 2023.

When the casino celebrated its 30th anniversary in February, the renovation was officially confirmed. A partnership with Great Wolf Lodge, a large High Stakes Bingo Hall, and extensive dining upgrades was also announced.

This is Foxwoods' first significant gaming expansion since 2008, when the resort casino's second tower, Fox Tower, formerly known as MGM Grand at Foxwoods, opened with 800+ guestrooms and suites, a casino, a theater, a nightclub, and other amenities.

“From our modest bingo beginnings in 1986 to the impressive, full sweep of gaming options now available at Foxwoods, we are excited to announce yet another amenity that will entice guests from near and far to visit,” Foxwoods Resort Casino CEO Jason Guyot said.

“Through our team’s shared commitment of evolving the Foxwoods experience, together, we are continuing to redefine what it means to be a leader in hospitality, gaming and entertainment, and cannot wait to bring this vision to life.”

The casino claims that the concept will include a slew of first-rate amenities, such as 50,000 square feet of gaming space with both table games and slot machines. A 13,000-square-foot iconic celebrity chef branded restaurant will be revealed later this year. There is now a new luxurious high-limit slot area. A 40-seat bar with more than 35 slot machines.

Foxwoods' new casino as well as a lavish 15-seat public bar, will be located in the Grand Ballroom, which is located in the resort's Grand Pequot area. And the project is set to begin construction in November.

“This addition will create a new and vibrant hub of activity in the center of the resort which will be open to the main concourse area, and provide unobstructed views into the gaming space,” Foxwoods official said.

Foxwoods 30th celebration

During the tribe's official celebration of Foxwoods' 30th anniversary in February, the tribe also announced new property-wide upgrades.

Foxwoods' development partnership with Great Wolf Resorts will result in the construction of a $300 million Great Wolf Lodge as well as a 550-room hotel with the same indoor water rides and amenities as Great Wolf's other 19 properties.

The Great Wolf Lodge at Foxwoods will be built between the Rainmaker Entrance and the Pequot Outpost gas station, just south of the current resort. The Foxwoods Great Wolf Lodge is scheduled to open in 2024.

Foxwoods is also constructing a VIP lounge. They opened a retail space called CardVault where collectors of sports cards and memorabilia can buy, sell, trade, and grade their items.

As part of the celebration, there will be a coming-up Sushi by Bou and Wahlburgers burger joint from celebrity brothers Mark, Donnie, and Paul Wahlberg.

Foxwoods has also partnered with Joshua's Worldwide Transportation to donate a new scoreboard to the Ledyard Youth Football League, which will be debuted later this year as part of the anniversary celebration.

“We are extremely grateful for the support from Foxwoods Resort Casino and their efforts to help our local Connecticut community and youth teams,” said Thomas J. Staigers, President of the Ledyard Youth Football League.

“On behalf of the entire Ledyard Youth Football League, we thank Foxwoods and Joshua’s Worldwide Transportation for their continued dedication to give back to our community, helping to unite the youth and past players, building a stronger community together.”
