Legal Situation for Online Casino in the US

The online US casino market is growing rapidly. With more and more states legalizing online casinos and sports betting the number of operators is steadily increasing.

With the scrutinization of PASPA which was overturned in 2017 in the US Supreme Court a new era of online gambling started in the US. Laws such as PASPA, UIGEA, and The Federal Wire Act did no longer have the power to prohibit online gambling.

With online gambling being regulated and licensed states are now expected to bring in tax revenues to the states where it becomes legal.

Below you will find links to the states which we currently have been able to review.

New Jersey

There are more New Jersey online casinos than in any other state. Since 2013 the Garden State has allowed in-state online gambling and in 2018 the first state to dismantle the Nevada sports betting monopoly.

New Jersey can be seen as an indication of where US online gambling will within the coming 3-5 years with a highly competitive online casino market with numerous of great online casinos to choose between.

The Garden State is also host to several NJ retail casinos. Most of them in the famous casino city Atlantic City.

Four years after New Jersey, Pennsylvania online gambling became a reality as the House passed a bill in 2017 that would legalize online gambling. The first online wager took place in July 2019 at Play SugarHouse.

With less attractive tax and free structure compared to NJ, the Keystone State has not been able to attract as many online gambling operators but big brands such as SugarHouse, Hollywood, BetRivers, and Unibet are offering their services to casino hungry customers.

There are more land-based casinos in Pennsylvania than online options at the moment. With a growing interest for online gambling this is likely to change over time.
