The Plaza Hotel & Casino to launch new Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown in Las Vegas
April 27, 2022
The Plaza Hotel & Casino will become the first branch as it opens a new Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown outlet at the hotel. The iconic Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown will open in early May 2022. Both parties will celebrate the grand opening on Thursday, May 26, which will continue throughout the Memorial Day weekend.
In a podcast announcement, the Plaza described the addition of the lounge as "a legend within a legend".
"We are very excited to welcome The Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown, which will create a late-night destination for live music and craft cocktails unlike any other in downtown Las Vegas," the Plaza’s CEO Jonathan Jossel said.
The hotel made a wholehearted welcome as it offered a new entrance on Main Street, exclusively built for the classic lounge. They hope that "The Downtown Dollar" will bring back the energy that one witnessed during rock’s golden era as the blues bar will complement the hotel’s casino floor.
"The Plaza is known for its vintage Vegas character and The Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown will be a perfect complement to the experience we offer our guests," Jossel added.
The Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown
The second Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown will get new and better upgrades. However, the lounge will maintain all its authentic vibes and glory. This includes the familiar layout and the signature vintage décor, complete with the dazzling chandeliers and dark stained wainscotting.
The most significant upgrade would be the room expansion, leaving the bar with a spacious 4,000-square-foot area that can fit around 300 people in need of some leisure dining and drinks. The new Downtown Dollar will also have a larger stage area, a spacious dance space, and expanded booth seating.
Other than that, the lounge will partner with the Plaza’s famous Pop-up Pizza to serve the best pizza and drinks in the area.
"The Sand Dollar has become known as an unpretentious good time for Vegas locals and industry," said Sand Dollar co-owner Nathan Grates. "Now we’re excited to be able to bring that vibe to downtown and Las Vegas visitors."
The Sand Dollar Lounge Downtown is a legendary blues bar with more than 40 years of experience. The lounge, named The Sand Dollar Blues Bar back then, first opened its doors in 1976, and it became one of the most iconic bars in Las Vegas overnight. It has welcomed many top musicians from all over the country, such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and Mick Jagger, along with members of The Rolling Stones, Ween, The Who, Fishbone, Blues Traveller, Marshall Tucker Band among many others.
The Sand Dollar Blues Bar closed in 2007 before its reopening two years later in 2009 as The Sand Dollar Lounge that we know today. Located on Spring Mountain, it aimed to celebrate the tradition and history of the original Vegas venue. In 2015, Nathan Grates and Anthony Jamison took over and restructured The Sand Dollar Lounge with a vision of restoring its original luster.
They created another signature of the lounge with the presence of handcrafted cocktails. In addition, the lounge offers seasonal menus and a wide range of drinks, from highballs to Tiki, all inspired by classic song titles. With the extensive menu and fun ambiance, Downtown Dollar secured its winning point, which sets them apart from other bars.
